Patient advocacy is an essential function of nursing. All nurses are patient advocates and advocacy at the legislative level is an important way to contribute to gastrointestinal health and wellness of our patient population.
SGNA priorities include colorectal cancer screening and infection prevention and each of us can do our part by staying informed and communicating on behalf of our specialty with regards to key concerns. Ways to be involved include keeping informed on key topics of interest, communicating with each other and legislators, and involvement in advocacy organizations. Even small contributions can result in impactful change so let your voice be heard.
